Recognised since 1989, the Grappa lombarda IG represents a unique geographical paradox within the spirits sector. Its official production zone is remarkably vast, covering 1,502 municipalities across the Lombardy region, including Abbadia Cerreto and Abbiategrasso. Yet, this immense theoretical footprint contrasts sharply with its commercial reality, as there are zero verified producers currently registered under this denomination. This absolute lack of active producers sets it apart from neighboring GI spirits; while its legal boundaries are extensive, no distilleries utilize the designation. This leaves the historic denomination as a dormant name on Italy's spirit map.
