Negroamaro di Terra d'Otranto
Wine · PDO · 145 municipalities
Established in 2011 across 145 Pugliese municipalities, including Alessano, the Negroamaro di Terra d'Otranto DOC mandates a minimum of 90% Negroamaro grapes. This denomination distinguishes itself from neighboring southern Italian appellations through rigorous, quality-focused production limits. New vineyards must maintain a density of at least 4,000 vines per hectare, strictly banning expansive pergola or tendone training in favor of traditional alberello or spalliera. Furthermore, while the base red allows a 70% grape-to-wine yield, the traditional rosato enforces an exceptionally restrictive 50% liquid yield cap, ensuring a highly concentrated expression of the native Negroamaro grape.
