Penisola Sorrentina
Wine · PDO · 13 municipalities
Recognized since 1996 across thirteen municipalities in Campania including Massa Lubrense and Gragnano, the Penisola Sorrentina DOC stands out for its uncompromising labeling restrictions. Unlike many Italian denominations, it explicitly forbids the terms riserva, superiore, scelto, extra, fine, and selezionato on its labels. Furthermore, unless the wine is a frizzante style, producers must declare the vintage year. The base white blend requires a minimum of 40% Falanghina, while the famous red frizzante subzones of Lettere and Gragnano must achieve their carbonation solely through traditional natural refermentation, with artificial gassification strictly prohibited, ensuring an authentic, naturally sparkling style unique to this coastal territory.
