Roma
Wine · PDO · 64 municipalities
Established in 2011, the Roma DOC spans 64 municipalities in Lazio, though its authorized vinification zone uniquely extends into Aprilia. This denomination distinguishes itself from neighbouring appellations through highly specific production rules. For the Riserva rosso, aging requires a minimum of 24 months, with at least nine months spent exclusively in wood vessels of 499 liters or larger. Additionally, while local producers can officially craft amabile styles, labeling terms such as secco, amabile, or abboccato are forbidden on the final bottle. Currently, 43 verified producers manage these strict parameters to bottle these ruby-red wines.
