Rubino di Cantavenna
Wine · PDO · 4 municipalities
Established in 1973, Rubino di Cantavenna is a highly localized Piedmontese DOC restricted to just four municipalities, including Camino and Gabiano. What distinguishes this Barbera-dominant blend, containing at least 75% Barbera alongside Grignolino and Freisa, from neighbouring appellations is its strict vinification mandate. The disciplinare imposes mandatory aging, prohibiting release before December 31st of the year following the harvest. Uniquely, this extended maturation is required despite the complete absence of wood-aging rules or a Riserva category. This dry wine, noted for its light ruby red color with garnet reflections, currently has zero verified producers.
