Terra d'Otranto
Wine · PDO · 145 municipalities
Established in 2011, the Terra d'Otranto DOC spans 145 municipalities across the entire administrative territory of Lecce, Brindisi, and Taranto, reviving the footprint of the historic medieval toponym. Unlike neighboring Puglian appellations limited to tight municipal boundaries, this territory unifies the southern peninsula under distinct composition rules. For example, its frizzante and spumante Rosato subtypes require a specific minimum of 70 percent Negroamaro. Chardonnay expressions must feature at least 75 percent of the grape, yielding a fresh, straw-yellow profile with delicate green reflections and a maximum yield of 11.0 tons per hectare.
