Trexenta

Wine · PGI · 14 municipalities

Trexenta IGT, established in 1999 across a compact zone of 14 Sardinian municipalities like Barrali and Mandas, has a highly unusual labeling restriction. Unlike most regional designations, eleven of Sardinia’s most iconic traditional grapes—including Cannonau, Vermentino, Nuragus, and Carignano—are strictly excluded from varietal labeling here. While these classic varieties form the foundation of generic blends, they cannot appear by name on the bottle. Instead, varietal labeling is reserved exclusively for other registered Sardinian grapes, which must constitute at least 85% of the wine. For generic rosso, Trexenta mandates a maximum yield of 18.0 tons per hectare and a minimum alcohol level of 11.0% by volume.
