Established in 1999, the Umbria IGT covers the entirety of the region's two provinces, Perugia and Terni, spanning 92 municipalities including Acquasparta. Unlike regional classifications restricted strictly to their administrative borders, this geographic indicator permits an unusual vinification derogation: harvested grapes may cross regional boundaries to be processed in the neighboring province of Viterbo or the commune of Montepulciano. For the generic red wines, producers must adhere to a maximum yield of 17.0 t/ha and a minimum alcohol content of 11.0% vol, resulting in a sapid, ruby-red profile ranging from dry to sweet.
