Vernaccia di Serrapetrona
Wine · PDO · 3 municipalities
Vernaccia di Serrapetrona, a sparkling red wine from Italy's Marche region, stands apart from neighboring appellations by utilizing a mandatory dried-grape technique. At least 40% of the harvested Vernaccia nera must be dried to yield a must of at least 13% natural alcohol volume. Cultivated within just three municipalities, including Serrapetrona, this wine contains at least 85% Vernaccia nera. Unlike typical sparkling wines, it is offered in both dry and sweet styles, characterized by a persistent fine-grained foam and a pleasantly bitter undertone. With no set aging period, the wine is released on June 30th of the year following the harvest.
