Recognised since 2009 in Sicily, the Vittoria DOC spans fourteen municipalities, including Acate. What distinguishes this denomination is its strict reliance on a precise duality of Calabrese and Frappato grapes. While neighboring appellations focus on monovarietals, the classic Vittoria Rosso requires a blend of 50% to 70% Calabrese and 30% to 50% Frappato, yielding a dry, warm, and cherry-colored wine. Furthermore, the appellation bypasses mandatory wood-aging or riserva categories entirely. Instead, maturity is governed by strict release-date restrictions: the Rosso cannot debut before March 30 of the post-harvest year, while varietal Calabrese must wait until June 1.
